Nestle is recalling NESQUIK Chocolate Powder from store shelves for potential Salmonella contamination.
Information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration: Nestlé USA has announced the voluntary recall of limited quantities of Nestlé NESQUIK® Chocolate Powder in the 10.9, 21.8 and 40.7 ounce canisters. The voluntary recall is limited to only NESQUIK Chocolate Powder, which was distributed nationally. No other varieties of NESQUIK powder or any sizes or flavors of NESQUIK ready-to-drink are affected by this recall. Nestlé is removing the canisters from distribution because the company was notified by an ingredient supplier, Omya Inc. that it has issued a recall of certain lots of its ingredient, calcium carbonate due to possible presence of Salmonella. The four major candidates each picked up a few votes once all the late-arriving absentees were counted by the Wauwatosa City Clerk.
Wauwatosa's canvassing board finished counting late-arriving absentee ballots Monday for the gubernatorial recall election, as allowed under state law, and each candidate (except independent Hari Trivedi) received a few additional votes. The Wauwatosa victors didn't change. Indeed, the absentee ballot results were pretty evenly split. The Municipal Board of Canvassers convened at 8:30 a.m. to consider the late-arriving absentee ballots. City Clerk Carla A. Ledesma reported the following additional results: "Two absentee ballots were rejected unopened because the carrier envelopes lacked voter signatures and witness signatures," Ledesma wrote in an email to Patch. Write-in votes in the gubernatorial recall include "Anybody Else" and movie character Ned Schneebly.
Can you imagine movie character Ned Schneebly for Wisconsin governor? How about television satirist Stephen Colbert for lieutenant governor? Some Wauwatosa voters thought they would be preferable to the choices. Schneebly is the passive, by-the-books friend in Jack Black’s movie, School of Rock. Colbert, of course, is the television host and satirist. In 2008, he jokingly announced he was running for president on both tickets, so why not for Wisconsin governor? Patch reviewed the write-in votes cast in Wauwatosa for the June 5 gubernatorial recall election. Whether Gov. Scott Walker or Democrat Tom Barrett will win the gubernatorial recall election — or carry Wauwatosa, for that matter — won't be known for sure until all the ballots are counted Tuesday night. What is known, however, is that when it comes to campaign contributions, the incumbent Republican governor has narrowly outraised the Milwaukee mayor in Wauwatosa. A Patch analysis of campaign finance reports filed last week with the state Government Accountability Board shows that Walker has raised $54,023 in Wauwatosa since January. Gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett Thursday blasted Gov. Scott Walker for vilifying the Milwaukee Police Department for what Barrett says was a miscalculation of crime statistics — an issue that has become political fodder on the campaign trail in recent days. He was at Jensen Metal Products in Caledonia Monday afternoon to announce the addition of 39 jobs. He earlier announced 350 new jobs at a plant in Neenah.
It will take baby steps for the state of Wisconsin to get the 250,000 new jobs Gov. Scott Walker promised on the campaign trail in 2010 and recommitted to over the weekend, he said Monday. Walker made the statement while speaking to about 50 employees of Jensen Metal Products, when he stopped in Caledonia while campaigning for the June 5 recall election. Walker announced Monday that Jensen Metal Products will expand its manufacturing operation, creating 39 new jobs, thanks to $2 million in tax credits through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation over the next several years. President's campaign sends e-mail to Obama supporters urging them to vote for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in June 5 recall election of Gov. Scott Walker.
President Barack Obama's re-election campaign is actively getting behind the effort to recall Gov. Scott Walker from office, The Huffington Post reports. The campaign is focusing its efforts on educating and registering voters in advance of the historic June 5 gubernatorial recall election. Tripp Wellde, the Wisconsin state director for the Obama campaign, sent an email to supporters Thursday night, urging them to support Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Walker's Democratic opponent. A closer look at the numbers in Tuesday recall primary indicates that many Republicans cast ballots in Democratic race for governor. If that's true, GOP turnout was much larger than it appears.
There were 614,511 ballots cast in the Republican primary for governor in 2010. That was a contested race between then Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and former Congressman Mark Neumann. Walker, running nearly unopposed in Tuesday’s recall, received 626,538 votes. That’s nearly a 2 percent increase in Republican voters from 2010, despite just token opposition for Walker, and does not include crossover votes of Republicans voting in the Democratic primary (most likely for Kathleen Falk). To put the Republican turnout in perspective, Walker’s 626,538 vote total was equal to 91.4% of the total votes cast for all of the Democratic candidates and the Democratic protest candidate running as a Republican.
