The UWM Real Estate Foundation Inc. is proposing a 128-room hotel at the Innovation Campus for the ABB development in Wauwatosa, reported Milwaukee Business Journal. The extended stay hotel would be built on a 3.5-acre lot in the area of the campus reserved for a technology business park. Details about the project have not been submitted to the county yet. Development on Innovation Campus under way after the Wauwatosa City Council approved a number of actions and conditions for the new ABB building, an international power and automation technology company, under which the city agreed to provide $2.1 million in tax-financed assistance.

Forest Exploration school's backers need to raise $2 million in donations and show that about $6 million more has or will come through other sources, within about two years. The Eschweiler Buildings' future rests on that success.

"This is an elegant solution to a vexing problem." The originator was Phil Aiello, project leader for the Mandel Group, which wants to develop an apartment complex around the historic Eschweiler Campus. ABB building approved for site on County Grounds, with $2.1 million in tax-financed support for parking structure in exchange for 10-year, no-complaints lease.
The Wauwatosa Common Council approved four separate actions Tuesday night to get development on Innovation Campus under way, and released the conditions under which the city agrees to provide $2.1 million in tax-financed assistance. The UWM Real Estate Foundation and developer Zilber Ltd. asked for and received three specific requests on behalf of the first proposed private tenant, ABB Group, a Swiss power systems corporation. First up and passed unanimously and without comment was a land division, essentially a permission to redraw the plat map certifying that the Real Estate Foundation could divide its property and put two acres up for sale to ABB. Change being the only constant, Wauwatosa will this week consider alterations of operators, of occupancy, of hours, building sites and of public investment in a variety of business developments. First private developer on Innovation Campus wants TIF funds to pay for underground parking beneath building, and other developers to follow will likely follow suit.
The developer for the first private business project at UWM's Innovation Campus on the County Grounds is seeking $2 million in additional city assistance to place below-grade parking under the building. Zilber Ltd. and ABB Group, the company that will occupy the site, filed an application for tax incremental financing (TIF) assistance before meeting in a closed session Tuesday with administrators and elected officials to discuss the details of their proposal. City officials had signaled in a Common Council meeting a week before that Zilber was expected to ask for TIF assistance and that it would be to support structure parking — it just wasn't said how much. Would you, after agreeing to sell a property at a given price, agree to reduce that price when a broker for the buyer came back to you a couple of years later and said it might be difficult to make the next mortgage payment? And might you do so if, by chance, you had some long-term investment in the successful outcome of that sale, rather than just walking away from it? Innovation? Bah.... History? Bunk.... In this day and age, where to park your car appears still to be the overriding concern when it comes to getting down to business.
In a far-ranging discussion Tuesday night of the city's part in UWM's Innovation Campus, and in the related fate of the historic Eschweiler buildings, Wauwatosa's Common Council finally got the word on what's really driving this bus. That word is: Parking. As with so many urban development plans, the mundane problem of providing enough parking emerged on the County Grounds projects. But here, the matter is so complex that whether the Eschweilers are saved or demolished in a redevelopment plan, or even whether any redevelopment of their grounds can proceed at all, is tightly tied to how parking is handled on the rest of the UWM Real Estate Foundation's property. UWM ask suburban police for an assist in arresting a 33-year-old Brookfield man as the suspect in the thefts of loads of toilet and urinal valves throughout the Milwaukee area.
Police believe they have at last solved the mystery of the missing toilet valves. UWM and Brookfield police teamed up Wednesday to arrest a 33-year-old Brookfield man on suspicion of stealing toilet valves from, at the least, the UWM campus and two locations in Brookfield. But flush valves for toilets and urinals have for months been going missing from all over the metro area. Fast food restaurants, grocery stores and college campus bathrooms have been favorite targets. The automatic flushing units being stolen cost from $300 to $600 to replace, and the total value of thefts are estimated at about $30,000. Long-awaited private-sector investment promises 350 jobs on County Grounds site in Wauwatosa from major power technology firm.
The UWM Real Estate Foundation announced Tuesday night that ABB Inc. and Zilber Property Group have entered into a letter of intent to develop a three-story office building at UWM's Innovation Park campus on Wauwatosa's County Grounds. The proposed 95,000 square-foot building is intended to house ABB’s businesses operating in Southeast Wisconsin. This office represents a total of 350 jobs, which includes over 100 engineers and scientists. At least 1,300 indigents buried on hospital grounds could be dug up as part of a building expansion, and sent to UWM for study. It isn't the first time, and a longtime advocate for the remains of the poor is indignant.
OUTSIDE MILWAUKEE, WI -- A proposed expansion of a local hospital will make more room for the living, and better prospects for keeping them alive and in the best health possible. But it will leave much less room for the dead. Froedtert Hospital's plans for a new 480,000-square-foot building to house expanded surgical, inpatient and outpatient care is proposed to stand atop what is now a cemetery containing the remains of at least 1,300 people. They were the poor and indigent of Milwaukee County, who died in its care at the public hospital and the almshouse and were buried on the grounds, dating back well over a century before the practice was halted in 1974.
