Jennifer Sebena's Name Will Be Added to National Memorial in May

An organization reversed to decision to add the name of a slain Wauwatosa officer onto a national memorial for fallen police officers. Jennifer Sebena's name will be added sometime in May.

The name of a slain Wauwatosa police officer will be added to a national memorial for fallen police officers by mid-May after an organization reversed its original decision to deny the addition, reported Fox6Now. Jennifer Sebena, who was shot and killed while on duty Christmas Eve 2012, will be honored by The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund in the wake of a significant outcry from Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn, the Wisconsin Professional Police Association and others when the group declined to add her name. Sebena’s name will appear on Section 58E, Line 25 of the memorial. The denial sparked a group to start an online petition that gathered 16,000 signatures in support.  Her …

Milwaukee Chief Supports Getting Jennifer Sebena's Name on National Memorial

The National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund will reconsider its decision to exclude slain Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn is in support of adding the name of a slain Wauwatosa police officer to a national memorial to fallen officers, reported Patch media partner WISN 12.  The organization in charge of the national memorial will reconsider its decision to exclude slain Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena. "It shows the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund is listening," Flynn told WISN 12. "They're a compassionate group. They're there to recognize the service of police officers and their sacrifice." The organization declined to include Sebena because she was a victim of domestic violence; the result was a significant outcry from Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, the WPPA and and others. Sebena was shot and …

President Obama Urged to Help Get Jennifer Sebena's Name on Memorial

The Wisconsin Professional Police Association sent President Barack Obama a letter Friday expressing its outrage over the exclusion of Jennifer Sebena's name on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

The state's largest police organization is asking President Barack Obama to help get the name of slain Wauwatosa police officer Jennifer Sebena placed on a national law enforcement memorial. In a letter sent Friday to Obama, James L. Palmer II, the executive director of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association, asked Obama to "support this growing effort" to get Sebena's name added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The letter — which was obtained by Patch's media partners at WISN 12 News — was sent one day after the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund delayed a decision to overturn an earlier ruling until 2014. The fund initially rejected putting Sebena's name on the memorial because it determined her …

Benjamin Sebena Returns to Court Friday

It's possible that the defense for Benjamin Sebena, charged in the murder of Jennifer Sebena, could take this opportunity to change its not guilty plea to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect based on a diagnosis of PTSD.

Benjamin Sebena will appear in court Friday for the fourth time since his arrest in the shooting death of his wife, Jennifer Sebena, who was on duty as a Wauwatosa police officer when she was killed during the early morning hours of Christmas Eve. While the hearing is billed only as “further proceedings,” there are some possibilities and some likelihoods. The only remark made about this hearing by presiding Judge David Borowski at Sebena’s last appearance, his arraignment on Jan. 24, was that he would “expect to set a trial date.” That, presumably will happen — if nothing else does happen first. But Sebena’s defense, led by attorney Michael Steinle, could do a number of things, among them, changing their plea. On Jan. 24, Sebena pleaded …

Jennifer Sebena Remembered for Caring Nature, Loving Spirit

Slain Wauwatosa police officer had tremendous impact on the community as a youth group leader and as an up-and-coming law enforcement member.

Jennifer Sebena had a major impact on the lives of high school students at Elmbrook Church. She reached out to them, mentored them through ins-and-outs of high school and comforted them during tough times, like the deaths of classmates. But as the students are mourning the loss of a young woman who they would normally turn to, they are leaning on each other instead. “She always would be able to help us with anything that we had,” said Kristen Overstreet, 18, a senior at Arrowhead High School. “She could relate to anything that we said, which was really, really helpful. We knew that she is not just making it up or isn’t going judge us because she has been through a lot of it.” Sebena, 30, was shot and killed early Christmas Eve while on …
