NCAA Funds Concussion Research at the Medical College of Wisconsin
In an effort to learn more about long-term effects of concussion on athletes, the NCAA is funding a multi-institutional study of traumatic brain injury. The Medical College of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa will participate in the study.
A grant from the NCAA will kick off a ground-breaking, long-term study of the effects of concussion and other brain injuries among athletes, with Wauwatosa's Medical College of Wisconsin taking a major role. The National Sport Concussion Outcomes Study Consortium will be led by experts from the Medical College of Wisconsin, the University of Michigan, UCLA, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Over the course of the study, more than a thousand college athletes will be evaluated in an attempt to study the short-term and long-term effects of sports-related concussion.
