Parents, Do You Know Where Your Kids Aren't?

School, that's where. And in one mother's case, she's certainly aware her son doesn't go to school even close to half the time.

Police issued five citations on March 25 for habitual truancy to students and one parent at Wauwatosa West High School. Those at West cited for missed and unexcused absence for all or parts of school days since the current semester began Jan. 25: In other Wauwatosa police incident reports: Last Friday A resident of the 2300 block of North 65th Street reported that some time overnight someone had smashed the driver’s window of her car while it was parked in her driveway. A large chunk of Lannon stone was found on the passenger seat; nothing appeared to be missing from the car and there was no firm evidence that it was entered. Wauwatosa police believed this and the following two incidents the same night were related: March 28 At 6:57 p.m., …

Police Reports: This One's In the Bag for Mayfair Security

Man tries to filch more than he can carry, and with a record like his, he gets his goods hauled to jail.

What a drag. A would-be thief tried to steal so much stuff he couldn't carry it all out of the store. That kind of drew attention to him, as it had so many times before. At 1:48 p.m. last Tuesday, a 32-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after he tried to steal 33 items worth $1,331 retail value from Macy's at Mayfair Mall. He filled up a large bag with so many articles he had to actually drag it to the door where, of course, he was stopped. The man was found to have 21 prior adult arrests for retail theft. Police found a crack pipe in his pocket, and the man admitted he is an addict. Because of his record and the amount he attempted to steal, he was sent to jail. In other recent …

Police Reports: Just One Scrap of Evidence Against Him – So Far

Missing driver's license found at site of missing tools, but owner of ID can't be directly tied to theft.

A foreman for KS Energy Services of New Berlin reported that some time since May 1 someone had stolen $13,550 worth of tools from a shipping container at a storage site near a construction project the company is working on. The same foreman had a few weeks ago reported the loss of more than $200,000 worth of custom-made pipes and valves from the same yard. The container was in a yard behind Lindenmeyer Munroe Paper, 3000 N. 112th St., near where KS is working on a utility project on North Mayfair Road. Police examined the padlock that had been on the container, which was lying on the ground next to it, found it to be undamaged, and concluded that it had not been locked at all but was just hanging on the hasp. They also found a driver’s …

Police Reports: Again with the Drinking and the Railroad Tracks

Ordered to stop by a police officer, drunken driver does – right in the middle of a set high-speed mainline rails. And when he does move, it's toward a bridge too far.

There seems to be some strange attraction that has been developed recently between intoxicated drivers and the railroad tracks in Wauwatosa. For the third time in as many weeks, a drunken driver has tempted an unforgiving fate by stopping on the tracks – although at least he didn't try to drive down them as in incidents one and two. According to this police report: At 2:29 a.m. Wednesday, a 24-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving, second offense, after a patrol officer stopped him for running a red light at Harwood and Glenview avenues. The man drove down Harwood and, when the officer flashed his emergency lights, stopped on the railroad tracks. And he wouldn't move. The officer blipped his siren repeatedly and the drive…

Police Reports: Spate of Garage, Shed Burglaries Hit East Tosa Mid-Week

Two incidents a block apart involved forced entry by kicking in service doors of detached garages.

A small area of East Tosa was targeted Wednesday by a burglar or burglars apparently looking for older, detached garages. A resident of the 2700 block of North 74th Street reported that between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., someone kicked in the side door of his detached garage, breaking the wooden door frame. Nothing was taken because the homeowner had locked down everything of value with steel cables. At 12:20 p.m., a resident of the 2700 block of North 73rd Street reported that he had just seen a man enter a neighbor’s detached garage through the service door, which appeared to him to have been unlocked, and leave with a push lawn mower. The owner assured police the door had been locked, and it was found to have been kicked in, ripping the …

Police Reports: Four Teens Try Big Candy Heist, But All Get Caught

In another incident, a man arrested for having a stolen temporary license on his car said he thought a friend did 'a pretty good job' of illegally altering it for him.

At 9:49 a.m. Tuesday, two 17-year-old boys and two 18-year-old men, all from Milwaukee, were arrested for theft after they grabbed and bolted out of Pick ‘n Save, 6950 W. State St., with display boxes of candy worth more than $350. Police found them loitering nearby but without the candy. However, video cameras outside recorded them carrying the ill-gotten goods in bags toward the back corner of the store, then returning without the bags. The cache of candy was soon discovered hidden among some shrubs, and more video footage and eyewitness testimony from inside the store was enough to positively identify them. One of the teens admitted he was playing hookey from school, that all four went to Pick 'n Save with the intention of stealing lots…

Police Reports: Siblings Lose Their Cool at Leff's; Teddy Bear Taken for Love

Brother and his two sisters overindulge, then go over the top and end up under arrest.

A family affair turned ugly at a Wauwatosa night spot, proving that those who drink to excess together, sometimes pose for mug shots together. At 12:48 a.m. last Saturday, a 31-year-old Milwaukee man and his two sisters, one 36 and from Wauwatosa, the other 30 and living in Milwaukee, were arrested for disorderly conduct after they started a fight with other patrons inside Leff’s Lucky Town, 7208 W. State St., that spilled outside. Police found the man shirtless and so intoxicated he nearly passed out in the back of a squad car and was unable to answer questions. His sisters were also staggering, swaying and unable to form rational sentences – except for brief, screamed, profanity-laden clauses in the imperative mood that were sometimes …

Police Reports: Woman Encounters Cross-Dressing Interloper in Office

She unlocks early in the morning to find stranger lying on the floor behind her desk.

A woman who had only been on her new job for a week got a shock when she unlocked her office in the morning and found a strange man inside. At 7:12 a.m. Wednesday, a Greenfield woman who works at the Milwaukee County Research Park building at 10437 Innovation Drive reported that when she entered her office, she found a man lying in the narrow space between her desk and the wall. She yelled and ran out of the office to find help, then saw the man leave her office and walk toward an exit. She told police the man appeared to be wearing a full-length black dress, leading her to believe he was a cross-dresser. She said that the office door had been locked when she arrived and nothing was disturbed. Police found no signs of a forced entry, and …

Police Report: Thieves Get Personal at Church, Tosa Public Library

Also, the weekend was marred by four drunken driving incidents and several burglaries.

In separate and unrelated incidents, thieves invaded the space of leaders at two Tosa institutions, a church and the publice library, to steal personal belongings. In each case, they preyed on trust and betrayed it. At 4:44 p.m. Saturday, the husband and wife pastors of Calvary United Methodist Church, 7265 W. Center St., reported that her wallet had been stolen by a man who had stopped in to inquire about the times of services. He was given the information, offered a snack and left in the lobby to eat it. Moments later, the husband heard the front door slam. He found the snack unfinished, and his wife found her wallet missing from her coat, which had been hanging just inside the church office. He was seen making his escape on a bicycle. A…
