On the Blog Post Eliminate Vouchers, Says Former Private School Teacher

You're right, Captain Midnight...The public school system was a virtual panacea prior to 2010 and the birth of the TEA party. Give me a break; art and music curriculum has been disappearing from public schools since the mid 80's, state funding had been slipping well before Walker took office (he just provided local districts a way to balance their budgets that was previously unavailable to them).
Kyla is right on with her assessment of the social impact of public education. I don't begrudge the teachers (I don't necessarily pity them either). Like any other industry, there are a few great teachers, a few lousy teachers, and a lot of mediocre teachers. The dirty truth is that the education system has become set up to adjust to the lowest common denominator when dealing with the children as a general population.
It's a good thing that we (my wife and I) get to spend quality time with our children after work, I realize many parents can't (or won't). Even though most of our time is spent reversing the antisocial indoctrination the children pick up from their classmates, we still have been able to get them 2 levels ahead in math and reading scores (which, sadly, were the math and reading levels of the grades they are currently in, 20 years ago).

ReplyAlthough I agree that the Menomonee River Parkway needs to be resurfaced, what about the Honey Creek Pkwy? I though part of the deal with the county, for being allowed to build the Hospice on the county grounds, was that that stretch of road (between Portland and 70th Street) was to be repaired/resurfaced - at least that is what was told to local residents at the time.

Park under the Harmony bridge and walk across the river footbridge...Saves 10 minutes of driving around the village looking for a spot.

ReplyActually, I believe it just passed the zoning commission on Monday, it goes before the entire common council on Apr. 30th, or so they stated at the meeting Monday.
Although I can see both sides of the issue, it was pretty upsetting to see that the zoning commission had come in with their rubber stamps, neglected any input from the local community, and approved the plan without a pause. It will be interesting to see if public input will have a greater impact at this full meeting; public speakers were fairly low key at this first meeting ( 0 for the project, ~5 neutral, 2-3 opposed), but I imagine there will be a little more fire-in-the-belly after the general dismissal by the zoning commission. The plan submitted by Reilly-Joseph seems pretty straight forward and the building/price structure does not lend itself well to low income / family living as it sits, but I can see this falling into an undesirable situation over time; especially as the senior crowd exits through attrition, and their 20% mandatory subsidized residential needs are filled through "alternative" methods.

On the Blog Post “Exhibit A" Criticizes the Sheriff

Well fine...so someone bastardized (def: to lower in quality or character) the English language to make a racist bumper sticker against Obama for the 2012 election.
That, however, has absolutely nothing to do with the correct use of the word in the original post. Lyle may be many things, radical liberal progressive being one, but I have never picked up a vibe (overtly, or covertly) of "racism" from any of his posts.

Although Lyle's stances are typically the complete antithesis to my own on most issues, I have to agree with him on the etymology of the word renege - from the Latin renego (to deny), re (again). Literally, to go back on a promise.
Good thing the author didn't use niggardly when referring to the County's budgeting and the Sheriff's office; I'm sure that would have got the vocabulary challenged in an uproar.

So, from the follow up comments, I can either conclude that A: Innocent upstanding citizen is being framed in the drug related death of dirtbag. B: Drug dealing parasite is responsible for uncalled for death of innocent upstanding citizen; purely for profit. Or C: Dirtbag A provided (nee, sold) a desired substance to dirtbag B, who unfortunately underestimated the cut rate and perished. All things considered, I think I'll stick with scenario C.
