Hey Lyle -
I thought you might be interested in my latest Retro Cinema Club feature, 'Country' (1984), which looks back on the Reagan-era mid-western family farm crisis of the early and mid '80's! The film actually takes a very liberal position towards many of Reagan's FmHA policies that effected many mid-western family farmers.
It can be found here:

Re: Comments about Nate by Al
Al is actually a guy with a serious mental illness named Brian. He has been arrested for gun related violence and is on the edge.
Just an FYI because I think he could become dangerous.

Will do, Lyle, although I haven't really contacted anyone. I'll try writing Jeff, the WFB editor to see if he knows anything.

I haven't heard a word. I sent a message to the new guy and no response. If I hear anything I'll let you know if you'll do the same.

Did you hear anything back on Adam? Seems like this new guy kind of just took over his spot without any mention of a transition.

Thanks for the Thanksgiving greeting, sorry I had not noticed until now. I have been 'distracted' while waiting for a diagnosis over the past 5 months. Great news came Monday- I do not have ALS!
I would like to wish you a Happy Holiday Season this December.

Have a great weekend!

Take care and always be ready for the debate on the boards :-)

He's something else. When he's on a roll they start deleting every other post. I don't know much about him but I think he lives somewhere in the North Shore of Milwaukee, wither WFB or Fox Point. Like I said before I think this is maybe his second or third screen name. The reason I say that is the comments are pretty similar between the three.

BTW - Congrats on NOT being labeled an enemy of the US by AWD!
That's quite an accomplishment :-)

You didn't have to go down to Colorado City to encounter the polygamists. They are all over the place, just have to know where they live. Sometime when we meet I'll tell you some stories.
7:04 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2011
Kind of hard not to just soak it up if you spend any significant amount of time out in Utah. I remember my first day in Salt Lake, my ex-fiancée took us to Temple Square to look at their Christmas lights and decorations. Across the street, a group of Baptists who were protesting the Mormons had gotten into a pretty heated shouting match with some Mormon Elders. Needless to say, the cops were eventually called to break it up. The next day, we went down and watched the latest propaganda film produced by the Church at the Joseph Smith Building – it was definitely an eye opening experience. I almost feel that I can now relate to what it must have been like living through the whole communist revolution in Russia – at least from the propaganda perspective anyway!
Yeah, I heard the whole "Rocky Mountain Jews" notion being kicked around by a few people out there. My counter always was ‘I prefer the Jewish Alps in the Borscht Belt region of the Catskills over in upstate New York.’ They always found that particularly confusing after discovering that I’m not even Jewish!
My only regret is that I never made it down to the Colorado City / Hildale area near Short Creek to get the full experience. I heard that place is really interesting, if you know what I mean ;-)
5:24 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2011
How did you find Mormon theology? You ought to here the connections they attempt to make with Judaism. I had a number of them tell me that they were part of the "lost ten tribes" and considered themselves as "Rocky Mountain Jews".
4:24 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2011
My ex-fiancée was from Utah and of the LDS faith. As her family still lives in Utah, I had the pleasure of spending much time in the greater Salt Lake valley.
I was actually raised a baptized and confirmed Methodist, however, I'm not really practicing any religion currently, other than believing in a higher deity and a majority of the Judeo-Christian values.
You're right - Utah is definitely an interesting place and unlike anything I ever experienced prior to spending the time out there that I did. As our engagement fell apart a couple years ago (she decided that she really didn't love me anymore) I haven't been back since. She broke my heart, so I don’t know if I ever will go back unless absolutely necessary.

Well if you knew that Lyle, why would you do something as ridiculous as challenge folks on the other side to show up to counter protest and suggest that if they don't, they're relaxing in their easy chairs? You're a smart guy Lyle, but you've got a bad habit of leaving low hanging fruit out there that just begs to be picked. Play the tape to the end before you post. That being said, good luck with your tests and I hope everything comes out okay.

5:28 pm on Monday, August 8, 2011
Actually Mussolini was the original fascist. He didn't practice the same kind of eugenic racism as Hitler and the Nazis. I am not focusing on Germans since I also would be consider German also. Not all Germans were Nazis or fascists. Neither were the Italians all fascists or the Spanish under Franco.
5:08 pm on Monday, August 8, 2011
Lyle, being up on history, I would have expected such rubish from someone else. Fascism wasn't limited to Nazis. Mussolini was termed Fascist as well. I realize it might include the concept of a single race, but more often its definition is used loosely with the extreme level of control a government exhibits. You can leave this kraut alone.
10:43 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
He doesn't talk about it because it leads to conversations with people like you. He is not fond of people like you Lyle, sorry....

Active. I hope we meet someday.
10:30 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
Maybe he doesn't talk about it because he knows what it means to have served. Sounds like you don't. As far as your wife serving, is she in the guard or reserves? She sounds like more of a man than you are.

Quite simply you are the one who has done nothing. Therefore, I don't want to hear from you again. Including things that I blog. Now I feel pity for you, your life is marked with nothingness.
10:26 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
My father served and never talks about it because he did his job. You always will because you feel it makes you feel special and like someone owes you. Your a puke and we all can see it. As pro military as I am I go to my wife's military functions and would love to teach you boys a lesson or two
10:20 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
NO I ASKED IF YOU WERE IN A CAMP!! NOT SOME STORIES OR ANY OTHER BS YOU CAN COME UP WITH. YOU HAVE MADE THESE STORIES YOUR OWN AND SHAPED THEM TO FIT YOU, YOU STEAL FROM OTHERS TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL GOOD. We all have family that helped free many people. You my friend have done nothing, deal with it....
10:13 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
Yes I lost people to the camps. My family also fought in the war to defeat the Nazis. I worked in the voting rights movement in the South and got the hell kicked out of me a number of times, had dogs turned lose on us, and had fire hoses turned on us. I also served my country for nine years and served two deployments in S.E. Asia. I lost friends and was shot down twice. I have put my ass on the line for my country. You want to call me weak, that's your prerogative, but I'll tell you one thing, I do know what's right and good. You represent the worst of our species with your bigotry, selfishness and ignorance.
9:53 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
Nope, just can't stand people like you... BTW, were you in a camp, were you part of the slave trade, were you involved in the trail of tears? If your ancestors were I'm sorry. If not, please shut the hell up. I once sympathized with my friends on the left, now I find your fight old and tired. Your weak and will continuously pretend to 'fight the good fight' so you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Good luck with that.
9:39 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
I guess it's something you could never understand. With everything that you have stated are you also anti-Semitic?
9:34 pm on Sunday, August 7, 2011
Seriously, now your offended cause your a Jew and someone posted an offensive comment (in your little mind) after all the BS comments you have posted. Toughen up big man, you put yourself out there and are really finding ways like most lefties to be offended. I have to figure if you are willing to put that picture on your profile you cannot be offended easily.
10:25 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2011
If you have noticed people have used the term recession and not depression. I have, on the other hand felt all along that this is a depression. I don't think that it is a double dip, but if you look at the Great Depression had periods where it looked like we were pulling out but then we back slid again. The Great Depression only ended when we entered WW II.
Like the Great Depression it started off with a financial collapse this is why we bailed out the banks. They didn't bail out the banks in 1930 and created bank runs. I don't think things will get much worse but things are going to limp along.
The national debt is manageable over time and things will not get worse.
9:53 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2011
@Lyle: Your comment to Nate: Anyway, what part of depression don't you understand?
I am just curious about your take on this issue...is this a depression in your opinion?
Or do you think the depression is coming?
Was today the start of the W effect? (double dip recession and market crash)
I ask because I am curious of your thoughts on this issue. I have been fearing the W effect for over a year, it has been my opinion that it would be much much worse than 2009.
Given the issues we have with our Nation's Debt, how can we handle a depression on top of that?
I just realized this belongs in your blog.
6:38 am on Monday, August 1, 2011
Mark, at some time in the near future everything will settle down again and we'll repair relationships with our neighbors, friends and relatives. I don't know if I posses the kind of common sense that you proscribe. All you and I can do is to continue to dialogue and keep open the lines of continuation open.
11:05 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2011
I do not feel the need for that. Just try to use 'common sense' that your kind hates. Good Luck professor.....
11:01 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2011
You are being way too cryptic. I don't have any idea why your would be getting deleted unless you're using profanity, make threats, etc.
10:52 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2011
Just do research on it, or get it deleted. Whatever works for you.
10:30 pm on Sunday, July 31, 2011

I have no idea what you are referring too. Please give me some specifics.

Hey Dad (Lyle), I've been looking over your blogs again and just wanted to say that you need to keep fighting the good fight.
5:24 pm on Monday, May 9, 2011
Your 'recall reminder' post appears only for Shorewood. If you can make it happen, it should at least appear on WFB & FP-Bayside Patch too. I just read ike's note to you and I think that explains the limited discussion thread following your post.
9:27 pm on Sunday, May 8, 2011
Have you noticed the lack of attention the more conservative bloggers have given your blogs? That is because you cannot argue the truth. That tells me that you're on to something. I really think it'd help people form better arguments if posted on a national site. It couldn't hurt anyway.
9:19 pm on Sunday, May 8, 2011
I know the Daily Kos or Huffington are national and I have never seen anything similar to your blog posted or suggested. I really think you'd be surprise at the response on Daily Kos. I think your suggestions deserve more attention than what you get from a local paper.
11:31 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2011
I'm not sure how you feel about media that leans one way or another, but have you considered posting your two blogs on the Daily Kos?
3:04 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Thanks Ike, I try. I have found that you just have to keep at it. I've got your back.
2:57 pm on Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Thank you for making well-researched, respectful, and honest comments. Unlike many, including me, your comments appear to be based less on opinion and more on fact. I'm glad we share similar viewpoints!
4:40 pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2011
Hey Dad, I've been looking through your comments ;-) Eta deber EMET! Keep fighting the good cause!
6:59 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2011
Thanks Linda! I know if you put yourself out there you are vulnerable to have your skeletons exposed. But I think it worth it.
6:54 pm on Sunday, March 13, 2011
Lyle, I just want to thank you for sharing your thoughts in your posts, and express admiration for your thoughtful, calm responses. I "flagged as inappropriate" the comment by "fiscal conservative" in which he wrote about looking up info. about you, and describes your house. I think that's highly inappropriate. I don't know what steps the Patch takes regarding an inappropriate post. I'll have to look into that. I'm hoping they'll point out to him why it was wrong. Best Regards,
