Candidate Drops Mayoral Run But Takes Up Council Contest

Jim Moldenhauer will face Jeffrey Kroll in 1st District instead of in mayoral campaign.

Jim Moldenhauer, who declared his candidacy for mayor shortly after Jill Didier announced she would be stepping down, has now dropped out of that race and will instead go head-to-head with another newcomer candidate for a 1st District seat on the Common Council.

Moldenhauer said that after Kathy Ehley, executive director of the Wauwatosa Village Business Improvement District, announced her intent to run as the fourth candidate for mayor, he decided the field was too crowded and that the race was becoming too much of a shoot-out.

"With a four-way race, I didn't feel that served anyone right now," he said. "I thought we would all just be spending a lot of money, and I felt that was not the direction that we should go.

"I have more than enough signatures (to run for mayor)," Moldenhauer said, "and I still very much want to serve in public office. I think I have a good deal to offer to Wauwatosa."

With that sentiment, Moldenhauer re-filed for the District 1 aldermanic seat, which is also being sought by Jeffrey Kroll, another newcomer to political office.

"I will be looking forward to the aldermanic race," Moldenhauer said. "As it stands, Jeff and I will have a nice race and someone will win in April."
